Final expense is a small, permanent whole life policy sized to cover the actual costs of dying: funeral and burial, outstanding medical bills, estate-closing fees, and similar end-of-life expenses. Coverage typically ranges from $5,000 to $50,000.

Applications are simplified. There is no medical exam. Underwriting is based on a short health questionnaire and database checks, and most approvals come back within days. That makes final expense the right product for applicants who are older, have managed health conditions, or who do not want to navigate full underwriting.

The death benefit pays cash to your named beneficiary, who uses it for whatever the family needs in the days after a loss. Because the proceeds are not tied to a specific bill or funeral home, the family can negotiate, prepay, or redirect funds without pre-arrangement constraints.
